Open Studio!

Here are some pics from the Fibers Open Studio last month. The first piece is a self-portrait, quilted wall hanging. It is made from cotton, linen, and hand-woven fabric. It's hard to see what is on it, but I screen-printed white on white and sewed together a bunch of small, layered pieces and then cut back into them.

The second piece is one that I never posted a finished pic of! It is about weaving and unweaving, and understanding the basic construction of woven fabric. It is called (de)construction...and SCAD just bought it for the permanent collection!!! Really exciting..this is the first piece that I have ever sold! I'M SUPER PUMPED! yaaaaaay

A New Book

Here are some quick pics of a book I am working on! The pages are made out of silk tissue, and the string is linen. There is going to be one piece of string on the front and back of each page, moving 1/16th of an inch consecutively in two directions. If the pages were perfectly clear when stacked, the linen would make a woven-grid pattern. So far..it is taking me SO long to measure!!

Ta-da!

Here are some pics of the finished window hanging. This piece belongs in a series of three, and I was playing around with the idea of weaving and bringing multiple elements together. In this case, the fabric is "woven" together through sewing, the linen threads are actually woven in between the cloth, and the piece was created to fit specifically in that window, joining together the lines and shadows of the building with the curtain.
